"Not that I have already
obtained all this,
or have already been
made perfect, but I press
on to take hold of that for
which Christ Jesus
took hold of me.
Brothers, I do not
consider myself yet
to have taken hold
of it. But one thing
I do: Forgetting what
is behind and straining
toward what is ahead,
I press on toward the
goal to win the prize
for which God has called
me heavenward in
Christ Jesus.

working in at Bykota house in december

    SCHOOL

December is quite a special month, cos we celebrate Christmas! :D and it becomes especially fesetive when it comes to Americans - many traditions :)

    the kids :)

Anyways, school is as follows -

Devotions/worship in the morning, followed by school ( science, creative writing, english, math - all these are christian textbooks which ends which memory verses heh! so while i was teaching, i benefitted from it too! :D)
    - after doing their texts, we sometimes read the bible together and Mark will explain what the text was about to the kids. Then after that, they either stay to do some chores, or go back to the Bykota house for lunch! :D (school is held in Mark's house) In the afternoon, we occasionally watch dvds together or do some crafts, like xmas cards... For Christmas, we had a competition whereby the kids had to decorate their work spaces and they will be judged according to their creativity and how their designs are relevant to Bible.. very funny to see many Khmer -looking Mary and Josephs! :D We also made plastic bag snowman! HA =HA CREATIVE POWER!!!

    preparing for christmas

Mark also gave the kids 5 US dollars each to buy a gift for the name they picked out at random, and me and Danielle had to bring them to the russian market to buy the gifts on 2 trips. Also for the Benz family themselves, they bought presents at the russian market, and a Sa Sovannah and Sorya market. i actually travelled to the Russian Market 10days in a roll! T-T So much i knew the people there!!

In the meantime, while Christmas was approaching, we realised that the usual sponsors for Christmas presents had not sent in their presents yet (usually the kids get 3 presents each, one from each other, and 2 from sponsors from other churches, and they really look forward to having the presents!). We thought maybe the economic crisis had affected the donors, so we just prayed hard every single day, and within the last week of Christmas, the gifts all came in, and we were really happy that none of them were stolen (the Cambodian delivery person will dig through boxes sent and see if they can keep anything valuable for themselves, and you can't lodge a complaint).

So on Christmas Eve we celebrated Christmas together with the Bykota kids, had a party with Khmer sandwiches, and fruits.. the kids really liked it! :D I couldnt finish my Khmer sandwich, wasn't used to the taste of it at all, and i gave my other half of the sandwich to my Khmer boyfriend! Haha, just joking, he's one of the other kids there . In cambodia, u can never really trust the meat that the vendors use in their food - when they say pork, sometimes they mix in rat meat, dog meat - so we call the meat Mystery meat, and i was looking and tasting the meat and it really is mysterious!T-T The kids ripped open their presents immediately when it was time to, and they loved the presents very much. It was great to see them so happy! But the mountain of trash to clean up after that was a pain!

    christmas celebration with the kids

    haha T-T
The next day the Benz family had their own christmas- which was alot smaller in scale than the one we had the day before. It was nice and cozy, but it was quite sad because the Benz kids didnt have sponsors that brought them fancy toys from America, but we still enjoyed ourselves very much..

    SOCCER TRAININGS ON SATURDAYS

On saturdays, some of the NGOs (non-government organisations) gather their kids at this big sports place to play soccer together. There happened to be a tournment going on, and many of the kids won! :D

    PETER FALLS REALLY SICK

During the time i was there, Peter, one of kids that i was really close to, fell really ill :( He had a bad fever and swollen joints , so much so that he couldnt even walk to school one day.. He had been in and out of the local clinic, but because the doctors are not skilled there, they could never give him a proper diagnosis, and day by day he just became worse. On the day he couldnt walk, we all prayed for this dear boy before Dad sent him to the clinic again - he was warded for 3/4 of a day, and me and Danielle went over to accompany him..was sad to see a small young boy on drips... But he was alot better after that, so thank God :) and recently i found out from Mom that the doctors finally had a proper diagnosis for him - rheumatic fever, after 2 years leh! talk about inefficiency -.-

    MADELINE DRINKS DETTOL

Madeline is a 2 year old adopted by the Benz family. One day while me and Danielle were just resting in the living room couch, Mary comes out and says that Madeline drank some dettol. We could smell it in her breath and IMMEDIATELY we rushed her down to dad. while Dad contacted the doctor immediately, me and Danielle were forcing her to rinse her mouth at the sink. The doctor said that the first thing to do was to flush her down with milk (apparently the milk will neutralise dettol) and then she was rushed to the clinic immediately and she got her little tummy pumped.... It's great that she was fine after that and she was stomping about in no time.

This month had be a really hard month for the Benzs, many kids falling sick, needing dental visits, personal problems, severe lack of manpower, decrease in financial support, but we saw how God provided and how Jesus loves all these orphans and little children :)

Oh and by the time the Singapore team came (the day after Christmas), i was so physically exhausted! T-T
