"Not that I have already
obtained all this,
or have already been
made perfect, but I press
on to take hold of that for
which Christ Jesus
took hold of me.
Brothers, I do not
consider myself yet
to have taken hold
of it. But one thing
I do: Forgetting what
is behind and straining
toward what is ahead,
I press on toward the
goal to win the prize
for which God has called
me heavenward in
Christ Jesus.

    JELLY BELLY!

Jelly belly's my favourite brand of jelly beans! It was the first jelly bean to go to outerspace man! You have to go to their webbie HERE!

yea Kati was telling me that they have Jellybean dispensers in America, and they even tell u jellybean recipes! Nifty! Well, surprise surprise , when i got to Paragon last week with Ben fer his medical checkup, we went to the Marketplace (we always go there cos they have alot of cool groceries that NTUC and cold storage doesnt) and lo and behold! i see a Jelly Belly dispenser in front of me and i was FASCINATED! and ...i saw the recipe! 2 choc pudding jelly beans + 1 peanut butter jelly = mudpie! AWESOME!

COOL SIA! couldnt get the full view but a giant jellybean machine towering over you is just... Magnificent!!! hehe

ooh caught Prince Caspian on wednesday - it's alot better than the first one and i thought this one was more clear of a Christian allegory than the first also. Special effects were great! K i wont give any spoilers! :D

mon- met up with Eugene and Selwyn my SOC friends when i was in first year in NUS :) it's amazin, we've know each other for 3 years! and we are still - THE SAME. hahaha. oh boy. it's great to catch up :) Fatman satay at Lau pa sat was superb :)

yesterday i went back to eat Fatman satay with Ben at Lau pa sat but he didnt want to wait for Fatman cos Fatman starts at 730pm so we ate some other satay and u should see how grumpy my face was. Unsatisfied craving. Boo! that impatient old man.

Oh well, that impatient old man is on a holiday and i am bored to tears. BOOOOO!

really hope i'll get that job ...

    On the topic of food...

In Cambodia i ate alot of Khmer Chinese food, kinda like Chinese food, and also homemade American food like pizza and tortillas also...but fastfood, not at all. So ever since i came back, i've been eating alot of fastfood - KFC, burger king, MOS burger, long john's... .and i've been eating alot of nice food like the wanton mee in Chinatown, satay at Lau Pa sat, Ichiban Sushi, Pepper lunch, Blue Jazz, and just today had the privilege of joining Uncle Vince and Aunty Carol fer dinner at a chinese restaurant with very good food fer dinner... And in the afternoon me and ben went fer turkish food near peace centre made by true blue Turks! We spent alot of time trying to figure if they were talking bad about us in their conversations from which we hear "Krakocia! Pakistan" and other words we totally didnt understand. but . it was funny nonetheless haha.

Speaking of food, I remembered my last 3D project for the recent semester - "3D you can eat! " here's the presentation board fer it. We could do anything from the concept of eating food , to food display, to utensils and blahblahblah. Mine was food display using yellow pepper as a membrane for light and also on food eating concept - all the prawns are connected to each other so people are encouraged to take their food one by one . DINNER ETIQUETTE :D and i came up with my very own Very Pretty Food theory. Aiya. QUITE LAME but owell... hahah. i did like how it turned out ;) credits to Hina fer photography :) *click picture for a better look!

i hope i finish my scrapbook for cambodia soon ..but it does turn me off quite abit cos it reminded me so much of 2D foundation design fer Sem 1 T-T k.. LATER!

I can't sit down proper, or settle down at all. All i think about is the place from which i've just left...

Just a lil, formal thank you to all the sponsors for the trip..

    Dear Sponsor,

I really wish to thank you for your kind and generous help for this trip to Cambodia. It has indeed been a true blessing for me to be able to spend time with the kids, teach the kids and live with the kids in a measure I have never done before.

Cambodia is a poor country with much corruption. Where the children’s home (Bykota House) is located, is Phnom Penh, what I could describe as the “city” of Cambodia. However, even in the city area, it is common to see beggars holding their babies begging for money or food everywhere. Many Cambodian people drink water which are yellow and dirty looking and fall sick after that. While living there, water filters are much in need for consumption purposes. Even the water we use for brushing our teeth have to come from big containers of purified water as “city water will make us sick”. Teachers are in severe lack also as it is a very lowly paid job in Phnom Penh.

My daily routine involved doing morning devotion with the kids, teaching them English through Creative literature, Social Civics, Science and also Math. We also go through Bible readings, English reading classes and do Arts & Crafts. When there are no lessons, we watch English movies or kids’ series together. Learning English is an important aspect of their education as it exposes
them to a wide scope of higher-paid jobs when they grow older, including
translations for the many foreigners who visit Cambodia and it also allows them to communicate with people and friends who visit them or sponsor them in a convenient way through dialogues or cards they make.

During my stay there, I’ve been touched by many stories of kids saved from the ill fates of prostitution, destitution and severe abuse by staying at the Bykota House. I have also witnessed some heart-wrenching scenes of the precious children falling really ill with swollen joints and infections. These diseases, as well as dental problems that arise from the dirty city water in Cambodia, have put much straints on the Bykota House’s expenses. Even so, my host have always ensured that the health of the kids are well taken care of, and that “they must always have enough to eat”.

All these and the children’s love have truly and deeply impacted me and touched me and in all, I would really like to thank you for all that you have blessed this trip with. God left me with US 1 dollar and a blessed heart and soul when i arrived in Singapore safely on 15 May. Thank you so much for all you’ve given.

    Sincerely,
    Anne Tan

A little on the situation in Cambodia before i introduce the kids maybe...

    • half the population are under the age of 15
    • It has the highest child mortality rate in Asia
    • Over 12% of Cambodian children die before they reach 5 years old
    • Highest HIV/AIDS infection rate in Asia
    • illiteracy rate 37%
    • life expectancy 56 years

So in Cambodia there are ALOT of orphanages because there are alot of people who just cannot afford to have children. These children at the local orphanages wait to be adopted by loving parents, but sometimes it ends up bad and they get abused also. In the worst cases, the female orphans are sold as prostitutes...

In Bykota house, the place i worked as an intern, it's a very different story. It's a Christian children's home that is not an orphanage or an institution, but is based on the God-given model of a family. So these precious children, several with physical challenges, are bought from the local orphanages and they belong to a family together under the care of Mark and Rhonda (my hosts) . Personally, Mark and Rhonda from America have 5 biological kids and 5 adopted Cambodian kids, and 16 other kids in the Bykota house. Well that's a pretty big family we must say :D i do take my hats off them as Cambodia is not the easiest place to live in...
