Just a lil, formal thank you to all the sponsors for the trip.. Dear Sponsor, I really wish to thank you for your kind and generous help for this trip to Cambodia. It has indeed been a true blessing for me to be able to spend time with the kids, teach the kids and live with the kids in a measure I have never done before. Cambodia is a poor country with much corruption. Where the children’s home (Bykota House) is located, is Phnom Penh, what I could describe as the “city” of Cambodia. However, even in the city area, it is common to see beggars holding their babies begging for money or food everywhere. Many Cambodian people drink water which are yellow and dirty looking and fall sick after that. While living there, water filters are much in need for consumption purposes. Even the water we use for brushing our teeth have to come from big containers of purified water as “city water will make us sick”. Teachers are in severe lack also as it is a very lowly paid job in Phnom Penh. My daily routine involved doing morning devotion with the kids, teaching them English through Creative literature, Social Civics, Science and also Math. We also go through Bible readings, English reading classes and do Arts & Crafts. When there are no lessons, we watch English movies or kids’ series together. Learning English is an important aspect of their education as it exposes them to a wide scope of higher-paid jobs when they grow older, including translations for the many foreigners who visit Cambodia and it also allows them to communicate with people and friends who visit them or sponsor them in a convenient way through dialogues or cards they make. During my stay there, I’ve been touched by many stories of kids saved from the ill fates of prostitution, destitution and severe abuse by staying at the Bykota House. I have also witnessed some heart-wrenching scenes of the precious children falling really ill with swollen joints and infections. These diseases, as well as dental problems that arise from the dirty city water in Cambodia, have put much straints on the Bykota House’s expenses. Even so, my host have always ensured that the health of the kids are well taken care of, and that “they must always have enough to eat”. All these and the children’s love have truly and deeply impacted me and touched me and in all, I would really like to thank you for all that you have blessed this trip with. God left me with US 1 dollar and a blessed heart and soul when i arrived in Singapore safely on 15 May. Thank you so much for all you’ve given. Sincerely, Anne Tan |
